The gastric bypass has been the gold standard of bariatric surgery for decades.

A proven procedure with the best long-term results, especially when diabetes or reflux are affecting your daily life.

The Procedure

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass

The gastric bypass is the gold standard of bariatric surgery. In this procedure, a small gastric pouch is created and connected directly to the small intestine. The majority of the stomach and the upper small intestine are bypassed, which leads to both a reduction in food intake and decreased nutrient absorption.

Frequently Asked Questions

Well Informed for Your Consultation

How does a gastric bypass work?

During a gastric bypass, a small gastric pouch (approx. 20-30 ml) is created and connected directly to the small intestine. The majority of the stomach and the upper small intestine are bypassed. This reduces food intake and alters nutrient absorption. The entire procedure is performed laparoscopically.

How much weight can you lose?

On average, patients lose 60-75% of their excess weight within the first two years. The gastric bypass shows the best long-term results of all bariatric procedures.

Do I need to take vitamins afterward?

Yes, lifelong supplementation with vitamins and minerals is necessary after a gastric bypass. This includes vitamin B12, iron, calcium, and vitamin D in particular. The exact dosage is determined individually and monitored regularly.
